Tongan language week

Tongan Language Week in Room 11

It was Tongan language week and we needed to get ready for our tongan assembly on Friday. We had to practice our tongan dance and our Tongan national anthem and the New Zealand national anthem. We started our tongan practices every lunchtime. Our tongan teacher name is Mrs Tuipulotu and our special tongan tutor was Emalata. After our last practices we went down the hall and got into position. When the whole school arrived we were very nervous. Throughout the week we prayed and sang tongan songs over the school intercom. We are all proud to be Tongan.

On Thursday Rata Team went to the Auckland Zoo to see the amazing animals. We met a zoo keeper named Richard. He showed us around the zoo.
First we saw a tiger. Then Richard told us some facts about a tiger. One of the facts was that when the tiger get hungry some of the zoo keepers put some meat on  a hook when the tiger not looking and then the tiger needs to climb to get it.
Then Richard showed us a snake but it wasn't a real snake. We felt it and it felt like rough wood.
Then we went to the monkeys. We saw Cottontop Tamarin monkey. They were like the littliest monkey in the world. Then we saw a golden monkey. They use their tails to balance. Then we went off to the apes.Richard told us that if we stay still the apes will  sing really loudly and show off. Then we Richard left us to look around the rest of the zoo by ourselves. We saw others animals like elephants, seal lions, flamingoes, red panda and lions. Helping Room 8 with Origami

On Friday 15th of August Room 11 went to Room 8 to teach them how to do origami. Origami is from Japan and it is a way of folding paper. We taught them how to make a sailing boat and a fox. Room 8 were fabulous at listening to instructions. Then we sang Row Row Row your boat using our sailing boats that we made. We put the fox into the sailing boat.

Bad Storms hit May Road School

On Thursday night it was very windy, rainy and stormy. We were all at home trying to sleep. When we arrived to school we saw that a gigiantic old tree had fallen down on our field. It had smashed the fence and had ripped up all the grass. We went down to take a closer look and we saw mud and dirty and a large puddle. The roots had ripped from the ground we couldnt believe our eyes. We were all very surprised to see such a big tree fall. Our principal Mrs Stuart has called the Auckland City Council and also called the Insurance company so they can help us fix the fence and remove the tree.
